Coates Butchers is owned and run by Ivan Lowther, who having managed the business for many years took over the reins in 2008. We remain committed to all of the traditional recipes and methods that had made the Coates name synonymous with exceptional quality and taste. These butchery methods are carried out in full view of the customers by our skilled master butchers.
It's not just the Butchery side of things that remains true to its roots; the bakery still produces Coates Famous Pies to the recipes handed down over the years. We are committed to manufacturing and supplying only the best quality products and have won many prestigious awards both nationally and internationally. We are Durham’s only member of the Butchers Q Guild, An organisation representing the country’s most elite butchers. We have proudly achieved A grade standards for quality, service and hygiene' in every independent audit and are rated 5 stars by Durham County Council in the scores on the doors scheme.

Matured dry aged beef (21 day hung, a standard demanded by the countries best chefs);
Locally reared Pork & Lamb (selected for us from some of the best farms in the area.)

Hand made gourmet Sausages and Burgers using traditional methods and premium quality ingredients
Ready meals prepared by our experienced in house Cook & catering department;
