For over 30 years, Coates Butchers has been a member of the Qguild of Butchers.
We source our meat from reliable and ethical suppliers and insist on the highest quality from start to finish.
Our in-house deli and bakery have become a firm favourite among locals and visitors alike. We are incredibly proud of our award-winning pies, traditional corned beef, homemade ready meals, freshly prepared black pudding, and
home-produced cooked meats. No matter what you’re looking for, we know we have something that will satisfy.
Our Heritage
At Coates Butchers, we are passionate about providing our customers with the best quality meat sourced locally.
Our history goes back to 1965, when Harry Coates Snr first set up shop in Trimdon village with his wife Eva & sister Mary, to bring quality meat to the people. With his Co-operative Butcher background, Harry knew that good customer service and staff training were key to success. He had a knack for details and that ethos is still evident in the shop we are today.
Fast forward to 2008, Ivan Lowther, shop manager who trained under Harry Snr, was given the opportunity to purchase the Coxhoe branch of Coates Butchers and has been instrumental in the growth and success of Coates Butchers. Our skilled butchers are dedicated to providing you with the best possible cuts and service.
Building for the future
Our team at Coates Butchers is passionate about providing exceptional customer service and innovative products. We are proud to say that our own Ewan Lowther was awarded an honorary membership to the Institute of Meat for his product innovation at last year’s Smithfield Awards.
